How pity works in Genshin Impact
Character Event Wish Estimate
On the Character Event Wish, each pull has a 0.6% base chance of a 5★. From pull 74 the rate rises by 6 percentage points per pull (soft pity), and pull 90 is always a 5★ (hard pity). On average a 5★ takes 62.3 pulls. Each 5★ is a 50/50 for the featured character; losing guarantees the next one. Since version 5.0, Capturing Radiance can turn a lost 50/50 into a win after a streak of losses.
Capturing Radiance is not fully published. We use the community model: the counter rises on a lost 50/50, falls on a won one, and at 3 the next 50/50 is won and the counter resets to 1.

Weapon Event Wish
On the Weapon Event Wish, each pull has a 0.7% base chance of a 5★. From pull 63 the rate rises by 7 percentage points per pull (soft pity), and pull 80 is always a 5★ (hard pity). On average a 5★ takes 53.3 pulls. Use Epitomized Path to chart one of the two featured weapons. A 5★ is your chosen weapon 37.5% of the time; any other 5★ gives a fate point, and with 1 fate point the next 5★ is your chosen weapon. Fate points reset when the banner ends.
The ramp reaches 100% at pull 77, before the official 80-pull guarantee, matching large community datasets.

How many pulls guarantee a limited 5★ character in Genshin Impact?
Pull 90 is always a 5★, and you can lose the 50/50 at most once in a row, so 180 pulls from zero pity guarantee the featured character. On average it takes 93.4 pulls; 80 pulls give a 50% chance and 155 pulls a 90% chance.
When does soft pity start in Genshin Impact?
On the Character Event Wish, the 5★ rate starts rising at pull 74 and hard pity is 90. On the Weapon Event Wish, soft pity starts at pull 63 and hard pity is 80.
How many pulls for a featured 5★ weapon in Genshin Impact?
On average 86.5 pulls from zero pity. 133 pulls give a 90% chance, and 160 pulls guarantee it.
Does pity carry over between Genshin banners?
Yes. Pity and the 50/50 guarantee carry over between Character Event Wishes, and weapon banner pity carries over between Weapon Event Wishes. The two banners never share pity. Fate points on the weapon banner reset when the banner ends.
What is Capturing Radiance?
Since version 5.0 a lost 50/50 can be turned into a win ("Capturing Radiance"). HoYoverse has not published the exact rule. The community model used here counts lost and won 50/50s; after enough losses your next 50/50 is won. Results for this part are an estimate.
